1500 GMT: Thanks to James Miller of Dissected News for covering the last 2 1/2 hours. A summary of current situation…

Reports of violence are now widespread, with comparisons with the march of 15 June 2009 flowing in. BBC Persian is quoting a „secure and certain source“ that tear and pepper gas deployed in Imam Hossein Square. Police deployed everywhere along Enghelab Avenue, blocking traffic. People are trying to get to Azadi Square on foot, with security forces getting more aggressive as marchers near the square.

########################################################

#######################################################

UNBESTÄTIGT !!

17.00 pm Epersian radio: crowds exceeding 1M. Reports live ammunition used against people.

########################################################

1416 GMT: According to Mardomak’s blog (trusted in the past) security forces are using tear gas to disperse crowds in Enghelab Square Enghelab Avenue. Rahana is also reporting that security has blocked Taleqani Ave and other cross sections and people in cars are honking in protest.

Also, reports are coming in from other cities, including a report from Radio Farda that thousands have gathered to protest in Isfahan and Kermanshah.

There are many reports of clashes and protests. All over Tehran, but we will wait to report them until we have confirmation of details.

##########################################################

5.00 pm RT @omidhabibinia Reports: More than 10,000 Protesters are in the Streets, Police Cant stop them.

##########################################

4:55PM Tehran Time

More reports that Mousavi and Rahnavard have joined protesters, but we still don’t have independent confirmation.

Reports of some people severely beaten in various clashes.

The earlier report from Homy Lafayette that we posted has been clarified. Apparently eavesdropping on police radio frequency, it was heard that 5000 to 6000 protesters were seen by police on the march from Eghelab to Valiasr Square. This is very significant if true.

Multiple reports of people being attacked and beaten by security forces in the city of Shiraz.

5:05PM Tehran Time

Reports of clashes all over the place in Tehran, with tear gas used in multiple places (still can’t confirm this).

Thousands of people are marching silently towards Azadi Square coming from all over the city.

There is even a report that Mousavi and Rahnavard have joined the protests (unconfirmed). If this is true it would be a major development. Keeping very close eye.

4:40PM Tehran Time

Confirmed protests in Shiraz, Esfahan, and Tabriz.

4:39PM Tehran Time

Trusted source says large crowds gathered near Amir Kabir University.

Blogger, Homy Lafayette, tweets:

4:17PM Tehran Time

A source posted a link to a dynamically generated map of Tehran traffic showing areas where there are traffic jams. Apparently, at least some of the jams may be in actuality showing where protesters have gathered and possibly even where clashes are taking place. Here is a screenshot of the current map

1215 GMT: The 1st Protest. A witness has told the BBC that at least 2000 people gathered in Sadeghiyeh Square in Tehran this afternoon (see 0943 and 1023 GMT).

There are also reports of people gathering on various parts of Enghelab avenue and marching towards Azadi Square.

#######################################################

3:39PM Tehran Time

One source reports that a huge crowd is moving from Ferdowsi Square toward Valiasr Intersection.

Report from Tehran University are that security forces completely control the area.

######################################################

3:24PM Tehran Time

Okay, the 3:00pm start time for the rally has passed. There are reports of pockets of people in various streets and intersections throughout Tehran.

We can confirm that metro stations are being closed or at least blocked off. Thousands of security forces in the form of riot police in the squares, with Enghelab basically under their control and routes blocked off to Azadi.

We have a YouTube version of the video in the Facebook link we posted earlier. Still can’t make out what is being chanted. Can hear cars honking and see some people wearing masks. This is somewhat indicative that it is likely from Tehran as only yesterday tips were being circulated via various social media channels telling people to cover their faces so as not to get ID’d and also asking people to be out in their cars to cause traffic jams to block the security forces from being able to move around freely, especially if they or in cars or on motorbikes.

##########################################################

2:29PM Tehran Time

One trusted source reports that security forces have blocked streets to Enghelab and Azadi Square. This is troublesome for protesters as Azadi Square is the destination of the planned rally.

The same sort is reporting that there is a vast presence of security forces in Tehran, with people moving towards the march routes.

(Note: In some cases, we are not posting the name of the source out of a sense of caution. The regime in Iran is notorious for jailing and torturing citizens and journalists alike).

###############################################################

2:40 p.m. We’re receiving reports that the number of people in Sadeghya Square is increasing by the minute. No clashes yet with the riot police who are all around. So far, just peaceful chants of „Marg bar dictator“ (Down with the dictator) can be heard.
