Kabul – Afghanistans Präsident Hamid Karzai hat eingeräumt, dass sein Stabschef Zahlungen aus dem Iran erhalten hat. Die Zahlungen seien aber transparent gewesen und als „offizielle Hilfe“ eines befreundeten Landes zu sehen, sagte Karzai am Montag vor Journalisten in Kabul. Sein Stabschef Umar Daudzai habe die Zahlungen seinen „Anordnungen entsprechend“ entgegengenommen. Laut Karzai leistet die iranische Regierungen „ein oder zwei Mal pro Jahr“ Zahlungen. Deren Höhe liege jedes Mal bei 500.000 bis 700.000 Euro. Die „New York Times“ hatte berichtet, dass Stabschef Daudzai regelmäßig Barzahlungen durch die iranische Regierung erhalten haben soll. Dem Bericht zufolge versuchte Teheran damit, seinen Einfluss im Nachbarland auszuweiten. Die Summen in Höhe von mehreren Millionen US-Dollar seien in eine geheime Kasse geflossen, aus der Karzai und Daudzai afghanische Abgeordnete, Stammesführer und Talibanvertreter bezahlten, um sich deren Loyalität zu sichern. Iran prepares for new crack down on opposition

As the Iranian government embarks on a saving strategy in preparation for imminent subsidy cuts, police and state security issued secret instructions for the suppression of any upcoming riots in protest.

Relevant ministries and local municipalities received orders to crack down on demonstrations expected to be organized by the Green Movement which supports opposition figures and presidential candidates in the 2009 elections Mir-Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi.

According to reports from Tehran these secret instructions include the enhancement of current security

 measures inside government bodies and adding new ones to guarantee a prompt reaction in case of unrest as well as offering

 more training to security staff and engaging them in live maneuvers to ensure their readiness for any upcoming incidents.

Civil defense centers are to declare a state of emergency and special crisis-management units are to be created inside them.

Regular security checks are to be carried out in stores and warehouses and the video tapes of their surveillance camera are to be reviewed periodically.

The government also issued instructions that all inflammatory commodities and any incendiary substances are to be rounded up and confiscated.

Dissemination of information can not be restricted: Rafsanjani

TEHRAN, Oct. 24 (MNA) – Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has said in modern day the free flow of information can not be contained as the means of communication are mushrooming.

“Today is the era of explosion of information and the flow of information can not be restricted. The groundwork should be laid in a way that people can use these tools (means of communication) appropriately in order to find the right path,” Rafsanjani said during a meeting with a number of university students and graduates on Sunday. In the modern world if some groups want to impose their viewpoints on other people they will face people’s resistance, he noted. Rafsanjani also said the Iranian youth will have a bright future, since their awareness toward the issues facing the country is growing, he said. “The future is very bright, because of the growth of the society’s awareness and the existence of cultured and educated people, although we may face some problems in the path (to success),” he stated. Eleswhere in his remarks, Rafsanjani commented on the domestic and foreign polices that the Iranian government should adopt. In the area of foreign policy, officials should seek interaction with other nations while preserving the Islamic system’s principles, he said. [HRAA] Heshmatollah Tabarzadi, a political prisoner currently in Rajaei Shahr Prison in the city of Karaj, has written to exiled Iranian lawyers and asked them to present his charges against Khamenei to the International Criminal Court.  The body of this letter, which follows below, has been given to the HRANA website.

Your honors know better than I that the main problem the Iranian nation faces is the lack of a judiciary body that is powerful and independent from the government.

Because the head of this judicial system is unelected and appointed by the leader of the government, and the powers of that leader are equal to the power of all the nation, as a matter of fact, the interpretation of the ‚absolute power of religious law‘ is elevated above elected powers and the powers endowed by the nation.
